We benchmarked the new RTX 5090 against the legendary 4090 across 12 games. The results might surprise you — and your wallet.

The RTX 5090 is finally here, and the question on every gamer's mind is simple: is it worth the upgrade from the 4090?

Performance Benchmarks

We tested both cards across 12 modern titles at 4K resolution. The 5090 delivers an average 28% performance uplift in rasterized games and up to 45% in ray-traced titles.

Power & Thermals

The 5090 draws 450W under load — 50W more than the 4090. Our testing showed thermals peaking at 83°C with the reference cooler.

Verdict

If you're building from scratch, the 5090 is the card to get. But if you already have a 4090, the upgrade is hard to justify at current prices.

We can spec the hardware so this article turns into frame rates, not regret.

If this post sent you down the upgrade rabbit hole, MacroAtoms can translate the theory into a rig that actually fits your budget and workload.
